Haryana won the overall trophy at the 38th National Junior Athletics Championships that concluded Friday here at the Nehru Stadium.
Haryana contingent collected 411 points to race ahead of host Tamil Nadu. The home team finished second with 362 points, while Uttar Pradesh was third with 238 points.
Tamil Nadu had something to rejoice as the boys’ team was declared overall winner with 170 points. While Haryana with 244 points took home the women’s trophy.
Manoj Piploda (Rajasthan), Nishchay (Haryana), Sandeep Gond (Maharashtra), Karna Bag (West Bengal) were declared best male athletes in their respective age groups.
Joy Baidwan (Punjab), Vala Roshanba (Gujarat), Pooja (Haryana) and Ashakiran Barla (Jharkhand) were awarded best female athletes in their respect age groups.
Nishant Karhana (U16 2000m), Virendra (U16 javelin) and Vikas Kumar Bind (U18 3000m) were some of the athletes who broke the record in their respective events on the final day of the competition.
